Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich
- 12 slices white sandwich bread, crustless
Tuna Filling
- 4.2 oz canned tuna in water, drained
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Decoration
- 24 black olive slices
- 24 small capers
- 1 small carrot, peeled and finely diced
Instructions
- Cut star shapes from bread: Using a star-shaped cookie cutter, cut out star shapes from each slice of crustless white sandwich bread to yield a total of 24 star shapes for assembling sandwiches.
- Prepare tuna filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the drained canned tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, fresh lemon juice, finely chopped chives, and season with salt and pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are blended into a creamy filling.
- Assemble sandwiches: Spread a generous spoonful of the prepared tuna mixture onto half of the bread stars. Then, top each with another star-shaped bread piece, gently pressing down to form mini sandwiches.
- Decorate sandwiches: For each sandwich, press two black olive slices onto one point of the star to resemble eyes, placing a small caper in the center of each olive slice to add detail and contrast.
- Add carrot star points: Optionally, decorate the tips of the star points with finely diced carrot pieces for extra color and festive detail to enhance the starfish appearance.
- Serve chilled: Arrange the mini starfish tuna sandwiches neatly on a serving platter and keep them chilled until ready to serve, ensuring freshness and perfect flavor.
