Air Fryer Baked Potatoes Recipe

  • Author: Jake
  • Total Time: 45-55 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Crispy-skinned air fryer baked potatoes with a fluffy interior, ready in under an hour. Perfect for a quick and delicious side dish or a customizable main when topped with your favorite ingredients like butter, cheese, baked beans, or tuna mayonnaise.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 4 baking potatoes (about 250g each)
  • ½ tbsp sunflower oil
  • Salt, to season
  • Black pepper, to season

Toppings (optional)

  • Butter
  • Cheese
  • Baked beans
  • Tuna mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes: Scrub the baking potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry completely using kitchen paper to ensure the skins crisp up during cooking.
  2. Oil and season: Place the potatoes on a plate and drizzle over ½ tablespoon of sunflower oil. Rub the oil evenly into the skins using your hands, then season generously with salt and pepper. The salt enhances the crispiness of the skins.
  3. Arrange potatoes: Place the potatoes in a single layer inside the air fryer basket to allow for even cooking and air circulation.
  4. Air fry the potatoes: Set the air fryer temperature to 200°C (392°F) and cook the potatoes for 40-50 minutes. After 20 minutes, check if any sides are browning too quickly and turn the potatoes over using tongs to promote even cooking.
  5. Check for doneness: After the total cooking time, test the potatoes by inserting a sharp knife. It should slide in easily, indicating the potatoes are cooked through with a tender, fluffy interior and crisp skin.
  6. Serve: Split the potatoes open immediately and add your choice of toppings such as butter, cheese, baked beans, or tuna mayonnaise. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • Choose baking potatoes like Russet or Maris Piper for the best fluffy texture inside.
  • Turning the potatoes halfway during cooking ensures they brown evenly on all sides.
  • If your air fryer is smaller, cook potatoes in batches to avoid overcrowding the basket.
  • Adjust cooking time based on the size of the potatoes; larger potatoes may need a bit longer.
  • For extra crispy skins, prick the potatoes a few times with a fork before air frying.
